Gabe takes her to the in room computer and searches the 'Alejandro Cortez case' on the internet...

Gabe: That's why...

Nikki stares, horrified, at what she's reading.

Nikki: Oh... I'm sorry....

She looks at Gabe.

Nikki: I really don't think your dad would see that when he looks at you... and why would you care anyway? I thought you didn't want anything to do with him.

Gabe: I don't...it's just that...God, I don't know. I've been trying to prove myself to people my entire life, I guess...and this is just another hurdle, it seems to me.

Nikki: You've got nothing to prove with that.

Gabe: You've only known me a short time, hon. It's....something....ah, you know what? It's cool. Don't worry about it.

Nikki frowns.

Nikki: Who exactly would you have to prove anything to anyway?

Gabe: Um...you've met my family, right? Now they'll tell you I have nothing to prove....but Jay and I feel the same way. There's kind of a....massive hurdle that we feel we have to overcome just because of who we are...

Nikki: What kind of family is that? Everyone having to prove themselves to be worthy of it? They honestly think you're "less" somehow just by who your dad is?

Gabe: No, they don't. We do.

Nikki: Why?

Gabe: It's...I don't know. We just feel...less than. We always have. Jay and I just can't shake it.
